The #1 overall pick is a total crapshoot

If you like lists, the draft and nostalgia... here ya go: the #1 pick in every MLB draft since 1984...

For every Chipper, Junior or ARod, you get a bunch of Bryan Bullingtons, Brien Taylors, Matt Bushs or Jeff Kings. Good luck, Strasburg.

Call it in the air...

What would be fun to see is a list of the top 10 MVP/Cy finishers for the last 10 seasons and see where they were drafted. Compiled by someone with more time/patience than me, of course. ;-)

Not even wasting electrons wondering about his chances to live up to the hype, but -- how many #1s even make it to the Show? Based on that list...half? Maybe a little more? Wow.

TANSTAAPP.

Pretty much all of them besides Taylor, actually. Not including the ones taken in the last few years.

They don't all become super duper stars, but they pretty much all make it to the Majors unless there is an injury. There are reason's they're the number one pick.

Didn't realize when I posted it, but I have post also up on my blog that gives just a tidbit about each #1 since 1965. All but about 3 made it, and most turned out to be average major-leaguers.
